The Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4 Tent is a new 4 person, 3 season tent which derives it’s unusual name from a beautiful mountainous area 10,000 feet above sea level near Steamboat Springs Colorado. The Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4 Tent is a new addition to the line of Burn Ridge outfitter tents which already comes in a Big Agnes 2 and 3 persons versions with the same name.

Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4-Features

The Burn Ridge is a freestanding, modified A frame family style type of tent. In fact, it is a great small family tent especially considering how inexpensive it is compared to other similar types of tents that we have looked at. It’s a relative steal for what it is. But stealing does have some disadvantages, and that is because this tent weighs a bit more than other similar types of tents that are ultralights. That’s the major tradeoff here. Price vs. weight, or weight vs cost, anyway you want to look at it. With that in mind, this Big Agnes uses an H shaped hub/pole design. Plastic clips are used to attach the tent’s body to the pole, and set up is relatively easy, and relatively quick.

At a nice and roomy 60 square feet, it’s perfect for a family of 4. The cross pole on this model gives you good headroom with a maximum height of 50 inches at the center which keeps you from feeling claustrophobic. . A 13 sq ft vestibule gives you plenty of storage room for you and your family and all of your stuff.

The Burn Ridge’s tent body is made of a lightweight polyester mesh and polyester rip stop materials. The fly is a heavily coated polyurethane nylon rip stop. The floor is also a durable nylon rip stop that is heavily coated as well. All seams are factory sealed with polyurethane tape. The doors are the D shaped type, and there are storm flaps on the vestibule door zippers. There are also mesh storage pockets inside. The footprint is sold separately, and you can also order a Big Agnes Wall Gear loft, which is a lightweight mesh storage container that hangs on the wall.

Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4-Value Vs. Weight

As we stated earlier, the tradeoff on this tent is the weight. Using a DAC lightweight pole system with press fit connectors as opposed to the Featherlite poles adds some weight. This Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4 Tent weighs in at 8lbs, 8 ounces minimum weight and  9 pounds, 4 ounces packed. For some backpackers, this might seem a bit heavy especially if you have been utilizing ultralight tents. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but if you can tolerate a few additional pounds of weight as compared to an ultralight, you are getting one great tent at one great price. The Big Agnes Burn Ridge Outfitter 4 Tent is a steal.
