The Cabela Family Outfitter Convertible Tent is a large 228 square foot family tent that is truly a great tent if you are looking for a big tent with loads of features. Cabela says this tent was designed to withstand the toughest of 4 seasons use, although I personally would be hesitant to use it in the middle of winter.

There is a large floor-less screen room that can be used for food preparation and dining. It has a big zippered door that could be staked down in the front, and it is big enough that if you have an ATV or some bicycles, you can park them inside to get them out of the weather. An interior zippered door separates the main sleeping area from the floor-less screened porch.

The tent is built out of a tough polyester, and the fly is coated with a thick waterproof coating to keep you dry in the most adverse conditions. The frame is made out of a strong aluminum 1 inch in diameter material that is built to withstand strong winds, and is fairly easy to set up.

An internal criss crossing truss system, reflective guy-outs and heavy duty steel stakes ensure that this Cabela will remain up and stable in the strongest wind conditions.

Internal storage panels allow you to keep your stuff neatly organized and within easy reach. You can purchase additional adjustable height poles which will allow you to convert the end doors on the fly to awnings.

What Cabela Family Outfitter Convertible Tent Owners Are Saying

After analyzing all of the reviews, the most positive comments from owners of this tent are in regards to the floorless screened in room. They all seem to love it. It serves a whole range of purposes from cooking and eating to storing muddy boots and equipment. On the downside, the biggest complaints were the typical ones. The tent really isn’t  geared for, or big enough for 10 people. A few people had some issues with poles bending or breaking. I have paraphrased a few of the owners comments below for your reading pleasure.

“The best part of the tent is the screen room. We had chairs set up in there and our 2 kids could play in the sleeping area while we read books during the slight rain. It’s also very nice to have a room with no floor to kick off dirty boots and shoes with before crawling into the sleeping part of the test. Avoids getting dampness on the sleeping area. We have a 4×6 outdoor rug to stand on before entering the sleeping area. Screened area also is great for storing gear and luggage, and getting changed, without stumbling over the beds and sleeping bags”…………by U.

“As with ALL tents, divide the body count by 2 and round down to an even number for comfortable use”…………by K.

“The amount of screens in this tent made it feel like the ac was on. With the rain fly in place, it feels very much like a four season tent. This being said, the fly sits a good space away from the tent for decent ventilation even when buttoned down. The hurricane straps and guy lines lead me to believe that this tent could withstand some pretty brutal weather. The material is of a higher quality than many other tents I have considered. At 6’2″ I can walk throughout the tent and near the sides without touching the ceiling. I really appreciate the near vertical walls of the screen room; this affords a good amount of usable space. The divider door has a screen and a solid door, this is something that I was unable to ascertain from looking at it on line”…………………… N.

In summary, this tent is highly rated by current owners. Cabela has been in business doing this for over half a century and evidently they are doing it right. The Cabela Family Outfitter Convertible tent is just one of their many fine products.  Go Here to Cabela’s Site to see their other tents and camping equipment.
